Angoon Alive Project

I just want to put my Philly church on blast & let you'll know what's going on between Philly & ALASKA.  We have been invested in a project to assist the Tlingit community in Angoon, Alaska through the work described in our mission statement below:

Angoon, Alaska is a Tlingit-native village of some 500 people, which is currently served by only one privately-held, non-native-owned grocery store. Angoon is located on an island, and as people on this island do not have the means to go elsewhere to buy their groceries, the current store charges prices that are simply crippling the inhabitants of this community. In a village with an average per capita income of $11, 357—nearly half that of the average U.S. and Alaska rates, at $21,587 and $22,660, respectively—a half-gallon of milk sells for $7. An average-sized Thanksgiving turkey can sell for more than $60.

The grocery store we are seeking to provide will benefit the Tlingit community of Angoon in many ways: it will provide fairly-priced products for this impoverished village; it will provide jobs; and it will also provide healthy competition to force the prices of the other store down. More so, as this will be a native-owned-and-operated store, it will also serve as a haven to allow local craftworkers and those with small cottage industries (smoked fish and meats, home-made breads and jams, and more) to sell their wares. Most of all, the Tlingits of Angoon will be able to say, "This is our store!"

Pastor Aaron's Testimony

Aaron W. Campbell was born in Plainfield, N.J., in January 1974. Growing up in a single-parent home by the age of four, Aaron, his two year-old brother, and young mother soon became acquainted with "the struggle."

As Aaron's father sacrificed to send he and his brother to private schooling, from a young age, Aaron quickly had to learn how to survive in two worlds that were diametrically opposed: the pampered private-school classrooms, hosting some of the richest kids in that part of New Jersey, and the harsher realities of the neighborhood streets, in a small city where crime was growing with the advent of crack. . .

He spent countless hours studying Lao Tsu and Taoism, Siddhartha, The Celestine Prophecy, Native-American mysticism, Mdu Ntr (Mi'doo Netcher) and the reading and writing of Egyptian hieroglyphics, The Book of the Dead, New Age and astral projections and transcendental meditation, Rastafarianism and the Kebra Negast, Hebrew Israelites, and even a little bit of the occult. . .

After hearing the Gospel, Aaron finally repented and surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Immediately, the scales fell from Aaron's eyes, and for the first time, he began to see. And though Aaron had developed an over-all suspicion about anything concerning "religion," this was the real thing.
